Michelle Obama Visits Haiti – Three months after a disastrous temblor hit the island of Haiti ,the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama made a surprise visit on Tuesday to the country.
During the trip Mrs Obama flew over the devastated capital and met with Haitian President Rene Preval, his wife Elisabeth Debrosse Preval and many other Haitian politicians and assured them that Washington will continuously support their rebuilding efforts.


Mrs. Obama who was accompanied by Jill Biden, wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, took a helicopter ride for an overview of Port-au-Prince which was completely destroyed by the earthquake that struck on Jan. 12 killing at least 220,000 people and leaving nearly 1.3 million homeless.
Obama told reporters:

“It’s powerful,the devastation is definitely powerful.”

Mrs. Obama and Biden took time out during their unexpected trip to tour a center for needy kids created by Mrs Preval where dozens of children greeted the American first lady with songs and dances.

Mrs. Obama sat down and drew a fish at the request of young Haitians who come to this center to deal with the trauma caused by the seism.

Obama has left Hispaniola for Mexico where she is set to make an official three day visit.
