Barry Bonds 20K National Association of Black Journalists Donation

Barry Bonds 20K National Association of Black Journalists Donation – Why would retired slugger Barry bonds make a huge donation to a journalists group?
He was never known as the type to get along with reporters, and had his career tarnished by reports of steroid use and other allegations that were made against him. But now, he is handing out money before he goes on trial for perjury.

The Bonds’ foundation donated more than $20,000 to the National Association of Black Journalists to fund the “Entrepreneurial Spirit Award,” which will be named after the Bay Area broadcaster Ray Taliaferro.
Some have speculated that the donation was made in hopes that he would receive better press during his upcoming trial. Bonds has been a controversial individual for quite some time, and his breaking of the home run record only created more debate regarding him.

He is facing perjury charges stating that he lied to a grand jury about steroid use. As the Major League all-time home run leader, Bonds saw his body transform over his career. He always had power, but he went from hitting 30 home runs per year in his 20’s (what should have been the prime years of his career), to hitting over 70 in the later years of his career.
His name has been mentioned by a number of former teammates as someone who definitely used steroids during that era of baseball. Bonds has always denied these charges, and maintains that he never used steroids. His monstrous numbers have been overshadowed by the controversy that has followed his career.
