Venus Williams Reaches U.S. Open Quarterfinals

Venus Williams Reaches U.S. Open Quarterfinals – Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters have reached the Us Open quarterfinals. Williams was barely able to advance, and needed 1 hour and 54 minutes to beat Israel Shahar in the previous round. She has been having serving problems throughout the tournament, and missed on 52 percent of her first serves in the previous round. This is something that she will have to correct if she hopes to advance against a much better opponent.

Williams is currently the third seed, will be playing Kim Clijsters, who has not lost a match at the US Open since 2003. She won nine of her final ten games in the previous round to beat Ana Ivanovic. Her match only took 59 minutes, and Clijsters said that it took her a fair amount of time to adapt to the heavy winds that were present during her match.

She was able to defeat Ivanovic, who was ranked number one in the world in 2008. After a string of tournament losses, she is now ranked number 40 in the world and was looking to get back on top. It was apparent that both of them had trouble dealing with the wind, but Ivanovic was not able to adjust to the conditions as quickly as Clijsters was. At only 22 years old, Ivanovic has a lot of time to get back on track and regain her spot as one of the best in the world, but it will not be happening at this year’s US Open tournament.
