Michael Brea Charged In Mother Yannick Brea Murder

Michael L. Brea

Michael Brea an actor accused of hacking his mother to death with a sword, has been officially charged with second-degree murder. Brea did not enter a plea and has refused to speak.

The “Ugly Betty” actor was under psychological evaluation since November 23 when he committed the murder.

Brea, who had small roles in “Ugly Betty” and most recently “Step Up 3-D,” said that he “killed the demon that was inside her”, during an interview with New York Daily News. This theory did not convince prosecutors.

“I did not kill her. I killed the demon inside her,” Brea said to the Daily News from the Bellevue Hospital. “So be it. It was the work of God.”

Brea 31, is accused of killing his mother Yannick Brea, 55, in the bathroom of her family’s apartment in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.

The actor, told the newspaper he had been in the Prince Hall Masonic Temple in Harlem the evening before the death of his mother when he received a “sign.”

Brea’s attorney had no comment.

Besides second-degree murder, the actor is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. His next hearing is on December 18.

Despite his horrific actions, Michael Brea can still count on the support of his relatives. The family said the following via a statement: “His family and friends know, without question, that Michael was not well in the moments leading to (his mother’s) death.”

Brea was also described by the family as “a compassionate, gentle, intelligent, spiritual and loving man”
