Kanye West performed his hit song ”Stronger” featuring Daft Punk and also a tribute to his late mother Donda West entitled “Hey Mama” at the 2008 Grammy awards.
West won best rap album for his album “Graduation” beating Nas’ “Hip Hop Is Dead,” at the event, and during his acceptance speech he said:
“A lot of people say hip hop is dead,” “Not just Nas, but a lot of people say the art form wasn’t popping like that anymore. I wanted to cross genres and show people how we could still express ourselves with something fresh and new, and that’s what hip-hop has always been about.”
