D.L. Hughley:D.L. Hughley Breaks The News CNN – D.L. Hughley has landed his own show on CNN,called “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News” that will be airing on Saturday nights. In a press release statement, Hughley said:
“I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the network that I have watched for a very long time, and that to a large extent, has shaped my comedic view,CNN offers the perfect blend of news and information on a local, national and international level. What more can a comedian ask for?”
CNN U.S. President Joe Klein added:
“When you watch as much news as our audience does, there comes a time you just want to stop and laugh — and that time will be Saturday nights at 10 on CNN.The basic premise of the show is, what if a guy like [Hughley] was let loose in the CNN building for a weekend after the lights went off?”
D.L. Hughley Breaks the News will premiere on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10 p.m. ET on CNN.

I thought the show was very distasteful and might I add a disgrace to Africa Americas all acorss this country. It’s obvious that he doesn’t have breaking news. I won’t be watching CNN that hour he’s on and I’m sure that I’m not the only one!

Wow!! DL Hugley should be ashamed of himself as a human being!!! Most of the people that I know are make intelligent decisions based on facts not on race. Hugley mentioned Black President more than 10 times which leads me to believe that Obama’s race is an issue to him. CNN and DL Hugley needs to become a part of the CHANGE that Obama/ Bidden stands for. DL STOP BRINGING UP RACE AND TRY TO USE ANY TALENT YOU MAY HAVE WITHOUT PLAYING THE RACE CARD….. THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!
DL Hughley has clearly sold his soul to the devil. The notion that Senator Obama is a “marvelous pimp” was distasteful and ignorant. I agree with Mark, DL needs to become a part of Obama’s message of change. DL’s format sets African Americans back 100 years. I’m disgusted with CNN for showing bad judgement by supporting such garbage. DL use your smarts and talk about the real political issues that matter!
I am a 50 year old african native american indian who grew up listening to Richard Pryor. I am very open minded, however, I wish Mr. Hugely great success with his show and I will be more than happy to email him some material. However, I was gravely disappointed with his first show and how african americans were depicted. I found the Mr. Freddie Mac dispecable and indicative of Mr. Hugley’s failure to keep the hood in the hood and Mr. Mac’s attire was out dated and projected the backwoods perception of black men. Why couldn’t Mr. Mac have been dressed in attire complimentary to the times. And the profanity used by Mr. Hugley and his guests were simply unaccepted and spreads a false image of African Americans to world viewers. Comedy has its place and so does profanity and CNN is too reputable of a news station to be subjected to what I presume a floodgate of protests unless Hugley cleans up his act. I have no intentions of dampening his spirits but I would be doing him a grave disservice in light of the fact that I would love for his show to become a success. I have confidence in him and I think he can do it. However, at this rate, he will turn away a potentially good audience. JUST KEEP IT CLEAN and please remember that just because your african american it does not give you a ticket to be critical to african american or yell black man or stereotype african americans. If white comedians and news anchors or late night celebrities spoke about African Americans or depicted them in the same fasion as Hugley, it would be unacceptable and some might lose their jobs so why should a free ticket be issued to Black Comedians.
Terrible show, terrible timing, terible jokes. Not funny. I thought CNN was a lot more careful about what they aired. I will not be watching DL hugley’s show on CNN or anywhere else for that matter.
CNN made a huge mistake. They strongly need to consider giving this show a makeover or immediate cancellation. As an African American I am so tired of the negative stereotypes. This show is distasteful, disrespectful and offensive. D.L. is more interested in poor racial humor instead of breaking the news. We can see that you’re black, but try talking about something other than that. How much longer do we have to be depicted as pimps and ho’s? D.L. is irresponsible and a bad representation of his race. First I couldn’t get pass the language they were using on CNN. Second, I couldn’t understand why DL hughley would do this for a paycheck. It was terrible….I listened to DL on The Tom Joyner Morning Show, and I was really impressed with the positive words he would speak while on the air. Watching him on CNN my mouth totally dropped and I just coudn’t believe the disrespect for the black community as a whole……unbelievable 1-10…..I give the show………. -0

I was appalled to see the the “Hughley breaks the news” show last sat ,& very dissapointed in cnn.Can’t understand why they felt the need to put on a2nd rate comedy show in primetime ,when the real news,I feel,is far more entertaining.The segment seemed somehow to cheapen cnn’s claim to be the # 1channel for news& I found myself fishing around for a replacement.
D.L. Hughley sucks. He not funny, he is not insightful and I don’t know which dmeographic he and CNN thinks he represents. I must say he has a good agent who was able to sell this unhumerous load of excrement to the wanna be hip CNN producer controlling the crap show projects purse strings. I know it’s not the Christian thing to do to deliberately inflict pain on others, but maybe we can volunteer him for that Jupiter probe project NASA is working on or banish him to another minority group, like say crab lice?
I CANNOT believe how much I hate this show. This show will sway independents on Tuesday. I don’t know if the American public will want to endure 4 more years of this type of black humor coming from the media. Obama has made me feel better about race relations in America. I’m proud of what he has accomplished and I am voting for him because he gives me hope for something better. I hate this show and we all need to write CNN to have it removed. I feels as DL sold his soul to the devil and I am a DL Hughley fan but I am really upset by the timing and the material of the show. I don’t know who at CNN is trying to sabotage the Obama campaign but they are doing a good job by airing this show. Why now, what is CNN trying to obtain except upsetting the election. I could see Fox airing a show like this but not CNN. I always thought this was a non partisian station but it is clearly someone has an agenda of swaying the undecided vote.
Uses race as the central and most important issue and tries to disquise it through the shows comedic value. Very bad timing- probably costing Obama votes!

I am a black female and I cannot understand why this show is on the air. It is complete nonsense. Hughley, is not funny, he is silly, the show does not make any sense. It has no direction or purpose. It is embarrassing. His false laughing is horrible, and the skits are embarrassing.
Please take it off the air and let’s see some good sensible discussions about the country’s plight. – put us out of our misery.

On Saturday, October 26, 2008 many others and I were gathered in my home for an informal social event. My television was tuned into CNN’s Larry King’s show, which we all later learned that CNN was to present a news satire starring D.L. Hugley, a once respected comic.
As the show unfolded the sounds and feelings of pain and righteous indignation openly erupted among all of my guests, and as an African-American male I even felt pity. Apart from its macabre lack of humor, it had the psychological impacts of a 1960’s church bombing in a time when America’s collective consciousness is progressing in ways never thought imaginable in those times.
It was an emotionally horrific and traumatic hate crime against the millions of African-Americans watching D. L. Hughley “Breaks The News”. The show presented characters and images of people of color as morally corrupt, jiving, intellectual inferiors, including Mr. Hughley who is uniquely unqualified as a performer dealing with political content under the cloak of comedy. CNN has racially shocked America’s soul back 70 years using old film clips of the late Sammy Davis, Jr from a humiliating and dangerous era for African-American people and performers and others who stood with them for equal rights.
|As Americans, we are all hurt and diminished by CNN’s total lack of social responsibility. TLFAE is demanding that Time-Warner/CNN cease and desist with the production and programming of the D.L. Hughley “Breaks The News”. We also assert that this malicious and intellectual assault was based upon CNN’s own political agenda by showing the world negative images of African-Americans as we proceed closer to November 4th.
All Americans should be outraged and are deserving of a public apology for this thoughtless act of political and racial terrorism. We are currently seeking legal counsel for class action proceedings and organizing a global boycott of CNN and all of Time-Warner products to enforce these demands. We hope that your response is both swift and judicious.

I never though DL was all that funny to begin with, but CNN should change the name of the show too
“DL Coon-ly breaks the triumphs and hearts of fellow African Americans”.

1. Completely disgusting. I get the feeling there is a very ugly racial tone on this show , that is bad for both black and white americans. People of all races should be completely outraged by this.

I saw your interview with the new chairman of the republican party , not impressed it was as if they are saying we have one to. We must have an alternate to the two party system completly separate and apart from the two law firms that we have now. We should divide the senate and house republican , democratic and independent with the rest comming from the general public(jury duty) when a person is called to serve as a senator or congressman he or she would serve two years , make their regular salary receive housing , auto, travel and health care. But would not be able to serve again nationaly in either party , republicans , democrats and independents would be term limited to three years.It was a time in America when serving as a representative of the community was an honor we now have lawyers that are either too lazy or not qulified to stand in acourt room using their position to lock the ordinary people out of the system created for the people . We don’t need any more long tem government bloodsuckers like the Bush , Kennedy , Clinton , Byrd, Thurmod familes that think their family have an inherit right to be governor , U.S. or State senators or representative .
