Bishop Eddie Long Scandal: Love, Live, And Lead, Like Him Billboard – Bishop Eddie Long is not letting the controversy that has surrounded him ruin his ability to lead the members of his church. Throughout the sexual allegations that have been made against him by four young men, he has maintained that he is innocent and that he did not do what his accusers have alleged. Now, he has gone as far as to say that he would like people to lead in the way that he has leading.
A new billboard has been placed in a number of areas around his church encouraging people to Love, Live, and Lead, like Bishop Eddie Long. The billboards do seem to be a bit out of place given the problems that he has faced in recent weeks, but you can understand what he is trying to do. Long is attempting to bolster his support around the community during these trying times in his life.
There are now four individuals that alleged that Long took them on a number of different trips around the country and internationally. While on these trips, Long reportedly showered them in gifts that included jewelry and cars. Then, he would attempt to convince them to engage in a sexual relationship with him. Long has maintained that these accusations are not true.
It will be interesting to see how people in the community respond to the signs that he is advertising around the city. Although members of his church have come forward to support him, you have to think that a certain percentage of people do not believe his denial attempts.

The city of Atlanta can not afford to allow this circus to go on! I am quite sure that a billboard can’t make the allegations go away. There are a lot of other Pastors in the city that need this exposure to let the world know that they are clean and about Gods business! Real christians need to stand and unite against such blasphemy about prosperity! Bishop Long says, “This is not just a church, its an empire!” The bible that Bishop Eddie Long totes states that Jesus is coming back for the church. He isn’t coming back for an empire! New Birth, you are on the verge of becoming a cult! May the kingdom seekers see straight through this empire and become the church that God is coming back for!
Actually, those billboards in question were up long before the scandal broke. They’re problematic nonetheless, and personally I noted them and wondered why it doesn’t just say “like God”? Now, it seems what those billboards are showing is how this church may be too focused on Long and too little on God. This article assumes those billboards are new, and they aren’t.
I’m not here to accuse or defend Bishop Eddie Long. However it’s obvious that the billboard’s script isn’t referring to Eddie Long but rather “the Him” is Jesus Christ. Notice the H in Him is capitalized.
Dont none of these pastors need exposure, they are just a guilty for being silent, and not forming one orgainztion in the whole city.
What the heck do we have all of these churches, we only need one. All of these churches making millions but thousands of blacks in their communities struggling and poor.
I think in that the billboards are misguided and kin to idolatry. The message is clear that we are to see the man as some sort of demi god. Which is contrary to message of Christ. It would have been much better if the same message had a Christ like image on it. We should all strive to emulate Christ.
Wow!! how can so many people be deceived. Thank God that Blacks are NOT monolithic. I grew up with some God fearing people who would not judge, but would have had discernment a long time ago, and stepped from under Eddie Long’s leadership IF they observed him walking in the flesh. This is not the first time he has been accused.
There ARE some AWESOME churchs in Atlanta with God fearing men and women as leaders, who are not perfect, but a trillion miles away from a scandal of this magnitude, how do I know? because the FRUITof Living in the Spirit is evident in their lives. tHE WORD SAYS WE WILL KNOW THEM BY THEIR “FRUIT”!!! People who become greedy will ALWAYS be open to believe AND receive a deception, and will always walk in the flesh. The wise man will pray for Eddie Long and his accusers, but distance himself from the confusion.
There was a time I thought all Baptist church’s were just packed with immoral, sinful people with no inkling of what living Holy from Sunday to Sunday meant. As I’ve grown older and wiser I realize sin is in all church denominations.
My heart is heavy because I know Eddie Long AND his family is hurting, and I know the young accusers and their families are hurting as well. We the redeemed are the “Church” and we MUST pray for victory in this situation. Pray that there won’t be enough money to cover up anyones sin. Do we even think for ourselves anymore? The intent isn’t to tear down a church leader! The intent is to show how we only look at what we want to see! This is my take on the situation. I beg to differ with you Dwight Richey. You say that it is obvious that the script refer’s to the Him as Jesus/God…obvious to who? Those of us who are no longer babies in Christ know that He makes reference to God/Jesus, but if you were not yet a Christian, or maybe just newly saved, there is a great chance that you may misconstrue the word Him.
Even as a Christian, the billboard is disturbing to me. In light of the accusations, in light of the observations of many that Eddie Long and his followers appear to be more focused on E Long than on Jesus Christ, I think that the billboards are distasteful. Long before these accusations, I felt that Eddie Long was ‘too’ big of a presence, that he was more of a Rock Star than a figure representing Christ. It is unnerving to me, to say the least. My discernment is strong, and I had negative feelings long ago about Eddie and HIS worshipers.
The bible is open to interpretation as is this subject. Bishop Long could be standing on these words of the bible b/c so far he’s been standing on the word.
10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
Only those individuals know what happened. I find it a bit suspect the amount of time it took to come forward, but oh well. One guy said the church/academy had a duty to protect him from this, but if it’s true how many other individuals were effected b/c of his silence. He had an obligation as well. Regardless, even if it isn’t God sent it is God used. Let’s sit back and see God work as opposed to everything else.
Phil, you are on point. I thank you for your comments. I used to be a keen follower of the bishop until he changed up his wardrobe in the pulpit. Once he traded his flowing robes for the muscle shirts whole preaching I stopped following him. It’s been a while since that time and so my heart was heavy when I heard about this and I won’t comment on the situation just yet but I can observe some definite potential problems. I pray for all involved including the congregation. God is nowhere in the midst of confusion and we must quote more than one or two scriptures where issues like this are concerned.
The largest image on the billboard is that of Eddie Long. So to me the him he is referring to is he himself. If in fact it is Christ he is referring to then give Christ the honor and praise he is deserving of and say that. There is no need to have a hidden agenda or leaving something to interpretation when talking about Christ, considering all that he has done for us. After that if you want to show me a man leading, loving and living like Christ show me a reverend, pastor, minister or teacher…don’t bother showing me a man that looks more like a pimp.

Eddie Long’s empire is falling apart. A fifth lawsuit was filed against him today.
In suit No. 5 we discover that he has purchased a gym! for men! men who wear Spandex and jump and prance about in skimpy clothing!! What does any of this have to do with preaching the Gospel? Why does Eddie need to own a business where men run around half naked all day Long?

I agree totally with you… This need of christians to use limited bible verses to protect Eddie Long is a shame. It is both Long and his accusers that need all of our prayers, as christians we all have a the spirit of discernment and should use it. The bible clearly speaks on how a pastor should conduct himself… I believe it’s1 Timothy. What concerns me hear is that many of us have forgotten such truths and tend to protect the messenger instead of the message which comes freely to us from the word. To the body of believers let’s get it together and come together and mediate on the word which come from GOD and not Mr. Long.

Please stop the ” proven guilty ” song. The Holy Spirit will give you an answer if you want to know. The court will not charge him for adultery and unbiblical acts of homosexuality. These are the issues the CHURCH should be concerned with. Whether the court finds there was coercion or not is not our concern. Adultery and homosexuality should be. Notice the lawyers are denying the charges categorically, not adultery or gay sex . We (the church)have to be spirituality mature enough to handle church matters properly and not hide behind misinterpreted scripture ( etc. judge not and touch not thou annointed) and ” the worlds court system of guilty or not guilty.” We do need to pray that those in leadershp positions in our churches will not fall to temptation and for grace and mercy if they do. I feel that the Love, Live, & Lead Like HIM Billboard, should most definitely say, LIKE (GOD) or LIKE (CHRIST) instead of (HIM). I think Long is so FULL of HIMSELF… I also look at Long as a modern day (Jim Jones), and that is HORRIBLE. That incident took place years ago, but Long and his Congregation who appears to stand behind him 110%, takes my thoughts back to (Jim Jones) and the People’s Temple. This was one man who was given way to much power, and took total advantage of the FAITH that people placed in HIM. That is a MAJOR MISTAKE that Christians seem to make. Your FAITH should ALWAYS BE IN (GOD), and NEVER in MAN!!! You Love your Pastor, and you respect your Pastor, but you DON’T place your FAITH in your Pastor. I love the way I see all of the negative, hateful, spiteful and even jealous comments about Bishop Eddie Long and the New Birth Church. Bishop Long should hold his head up high. For the ignorant that never bothered to set foot in New Birth Baptist Church, Love Live & Lead like Him is in reference to Christ; we worship Jesus Christ at New Birth under strict guidance from our Bishop. Anyone can make a baseless allegation yet you “Christians” believe with blind faith that it must be the Gospel! Yet we, at New Birth, believe in what the Bible says (because we are taught from our Bishop) and don’t judge others even though they spread as many lies as possible about this church. I truly commend everyone on their point of views concerning Bishop Long and these allegations. I have watched and read every comment and have enjoyed the intense conversation. I took the time to comment simply because Odell made a statement that I think is clearly being overlooked. The press behind this situation NAMES Bishop Eddie Long, but it is really about the BLACK Christian FAITH/CHURCHES in general. To think that Bishop Long is the only Bishop/Pastor in the world that has been accused of allegations such as this would be crazy. There are hundreds maybe even thousands; SAD I know; needless to say all we can do is pray. Because he is BLACK, he is a prominent and relevant Preacher in the BLACK Society these allegations have hit National Airways. The attack being true or false won’t just negatively hurt Bishop Long and his congregation this will cause the integrity of every man of God to be in questions and may cause us to lose some believers. I just wanted to note that when this is said and done it may come down your street so take heed and be prepared as we are Prayerful as a body of believers for God to step in. And NO I’m not for or against Bishop I stand for Righteousness and I Love his ministry, I just don’t want us to let this divide the people of God. We are judged by our fruits and from the looks of things he is doing something right so some of us may need to take note from 300 believers to 30,000 you would have to have a lot of Guns to make that many people follow your leadership.

The several sexual allegations leveled against Bishop Eddie Long by the young “boys” and the “Fresh Sperm” video-taped sermon on YouTube inexplicably go together no matter when the message (sermon) was delilvered.
Trying to weave those filthy words into a deep revelation message was abominable, just like the alleged sex acts with the boys. You cannot logically separate the filthy message from the lurid allegations. This is a dead give away and fulfills the scripture “your sin will find you out.” He clearly “exposed” himself.
Moreover, (not trying to be comical), but sperm can be no fresher than coming from young boys “fresh out of puberty.”
I am a Christian. I don’t live in Atlanta. When I saw the billboard for the first time today, I thought the “him” referred to the Bishop – not God. Where do you see ANY indication it’s referreing to God? ALL the letters are caps! To me, it’s an advertisment for us to “experiene Eddie Long, and his church.” A TREE IS KNOWN BY THE FRUIT IT BEARS! Read the story of self proclaimed Bishop Evans Bacon, Jr. who just THIS Friday went to jail after pleading GUILTY to molesting a very young female church member! The entire time he was accused, he continued to preach – even AFTER leaders in the church ASKED him to step down! He was guilty all along, yet still kept trying to collect tithes until the day he was sentenced! Saints – is it POSSIBLE the accusers are telling the truth? It’s obvious Evans Bacon’s accuser was! If all have sinned and come short – does that give him the right to collect your tithes and spend it any way he wants? Do preachers do things like solicit young church members? I was solicited by a pastor when I was 25 years old, and NO ONE BELIEVED ME! I left after being told by the minister I sought help from “not to accuse an elder” God IS good, but some of these pastors are not! That’s why you HAVE to inspect the fruit! How much DID his jet cost?
I’m still trying to figure out what makes him “a man of God”. Is it the custom clothes he wears, his degree or his peers? Maybe he’ll turn into an angel if he sews wings on his clothes and rocks a platinum halo. I will admit, he’s a good entertainer.
Recently there is a petition going around New Birth trying to get the Bishop to step down at least until he is cleared of the allegations. They are trying to get 1000 signatures by Nov. 15. If this is true, you have at least 1000 members that are willing to seek the truth. That leaves hope for the congregation! New Birth, do the right thing and you guys will be blessed!!!

It would be safe to say that we don’t know the truth either way. The young men could be lying or Eddie Long could be lying. Therefore, let’s not beat each other up about our own opinions. As Christians, if you are, the best thing we can do is pray for both Eddlie Long as well as the young men. Pray that God will reveal the truth and expose the liar.

The sign should state Jesus and not Him. Not everyone understands “Him”. The scripture tells us not to let our good be evil spoken of. However rather than looking at this as if I know, I believe we need to speak the truth in love. The sign is a mistake, but in my mind not necessarily mean’t to put the Pastor on the level with Christ, but unfortunately it can be interpreted that way. This is why Christians should not be careful that we are not the conduit ofr evil communications. I pray for the pastor everyday because the devil is a roaring lion walking around seeking whom he may destroy /devour. I ask those who really believe to pray for the church and pray for the pastor. The bill board “love, live, and lead like him” obviously is referring to Eddie Long. This
billboard was up before the allegations. The bible has consequences for people
who exalt themselves or don’t correct others who do exalt them. Notice after he and
or his congregation exalted him the allegations came forward, that was God’s doing.
Furthermore the bible says in 2 Corinthians 13:1 ……. In the mouth of two or three
witnesses shall every word be established. and the bible says in 1 Timothy 5:19
Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
We have four witnesses to Eddie Long’s actions.
Now quit using excuses and handle the situation in the fear of God and not man!!!
Quit making excuses with all have sinned, we know that, but that don’t excuse
dealing with the situation. Don’t use scripture to hide behind a cloke of
maliciousness. If we sin we “must repent” 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth
and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
This is wise counsel to people who are under leadership in a church.
Galatians 1:10 …… do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be
the servant of Christ.
Get your eyes off man and keep it solely on the word of God and stand on it having
no respect of persons. For the bible declares this James 2:1 My brethren, have not
the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
James 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin….
We will all see, in the end, who is right and who is wrong. Let’s put the focus back the the lost souls who are a stake. If Bishop Long has done these things, trust me, he is not going to rest in his spirit. God is real and so is his word and his word will not return unto him void.
That being said, the soul that sins, it shall die. God is forgiving God and he knows the hearts and minds of all his creation. I am troubled by statements made by by so-called preachers who think that they are perfect and upright.
Update: Just because you have not been caught doesn’t mean you are so holy.
When you think that ain’t no body saved but you and your church, you have sinned right there. WOW TO THE MAN WHO SEEMS RIGHT IN OWN EYES.
The sign I believe refers to Jesus as the “Him”. However it can be interpreted as applying to the Bishop. I do not believe the Bishop is so unspiritual as to put himself on the level of Christ nor do I believe his church puts the Bishop on the level with Christ. Whatever his intent it definitely has not been received as proper by a lot of people. The sign was up before the allegations and I am sure there were those asking who is it that the sign was referring to as “Him” before the Bishop’s current allegations. I do believe that God through His providence has brought this sin to light so that the Bishop and his church can correct the sin before it goes too far, if it hasn’t already done so. I do not know the mind of God and I know that I am not always right in what I feel, see and believe. I will pray for the Bishop and his church continually.
