The Royal Wedding of Prince William and his bride Kate has spawned numerous human interest stories including one very unusual one that has touches to the Americans.

In this case the story of one Denton John who actually grew up on the streets of Harlem in New York City riding skateboards and listening to punk rock.

Now he’s part of the the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment that escorted Queen Elizabeth back fro m the wedding to Buckingham Palace. Denton is the son if immigrants from the island nation of Grenada.

It was his Grenadian roots that got Mr. John into the royal Cavalry. He returned to Grenada which is part of the British Commonwealth, then he joined the British military and graduated up to his post in the cavalry.

He was the only American in the procession which makes him a multiple history maker.

John learned how to ride horses and is now part of that elite guard that protects the Queen. They’re the first line of defense in her personal protection. His being black made him easy to spot in the procession and made his American friends and family very proud.
