Janet Jackson On Oprah Friday Interview Video – Janet Jackson stopped by the Oprah Winfrey Show on Friday to promote Tyler Perry’s latest movie “Why Did I Get Married Too?”
While speaking with the talk show queen, Jackson opened up about her brother’s passing – including their family intervention attempts, the last time she saw Michael alive, and who she believes is responsible for the pop icon’s death.
“One thing that sticks in my head is his laughter,” Janet told Oprah. “And, the last time I saw him, which was two days before my birthday (May 16) at my parents’ surprise party. I was being silly, like I always did when we were kids… and he kept looking at me just a cracking up.”
Six weeks after Janet’s birthday, Michael died on June 25 at the age of 50, of acute Propofol intoxication. On that unforgettable tragic day, Janet was on set filming her role in “Why Did I Get Married Too,” where Perry and fellow actors were at the singer’s side to comfort and console her as she mourned her brother’s passing.
“When you heard that he was gone, and gone because of drugs, were you shocked or were you feeling like somewhere in the back of your mind, you always felt that day could come?” Oprah asked.
“I felt that day could possibly come. I think everyone thinks that who has a family member or a friend…” Janet said.
Janet told Oprah about repeated attempts to save Michael from his addiction to prescription medications, including full on Jackson Family interventions.
“He was very much in denial,” Janet said, admitting that Michael didn’t think he had a problem.
When asked if the family was worried that something like that could happen (referring to Michael’s deadly drug overdose), Janet responded, “Of course. “I mean that’s why we did what we did. I mean, we tried it several times (intervention) and he was very much in denial.”
Dr. Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter, is accused of administering the powerful anaesthetic Propofol to Jackson. He is expected in court on Monday, April 5 to face the charge. But in Janet’s eyes, the doctor is already guilty.
“Yes, I do,” Janet answered when asked if she blames Dr. Murray. “He’s the one that was administering the drug, from what I do know.”
When I heard Michael died I cried so much. I cried for him as if he were a close family member. My 12 year old daughter tried to consol me by saying “mom please don’t cry. God must be having the bigest party ever in Heaven and he needs the best singer of all times, that’s why he sent for his son Michael.” The pain was unbearable God must of inspired my daughter to tell me that because for a moment everything felt ok. I thought I must be selfish to question why Michael had to die so young. God granted us 50 years of the best singer, dancer and humanitarian and now that he wants his son home who am I to question him. I got on my knees and prayed for the Jackson family and thank God for having the opportunity to grow up with Michael’s music.
