Michelle Obama Black Designer Inauguration Diss

Michelle Obama Black Designer Inauguration Diss – The inaugural outfits that Michelle Obama picked, have angered African-American members of the fashion community. The Black Artists Association is angry at the First Lady for not selecting a dress designed by an African American designer for Tuesday’s historic inauguration of President Obama.Amnau Eele, co-founder of the Black Artists Association and former YSL model said:

“It’s fine and good if you want to be all ‘Kumbaya’ and ‘We Are the World’ by representing all different countries. But if you are going to have Isabel Toledo do the inauguration dress, and Jason Wu do the evening gown, why not have Kevan Hall, B Michael, Stephen Burrows or any of the other black designers do something too?”
“It’s one thing to look at the world without color but she had seven slots to wear designer clothes. Why wasn’t she wearing the clothes of a black designer? That was our moment.”

The First Lady chose a gold dress and coat by Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo for her husband’s swearing ceremony and a white one shoulder dress by Jason Wu for the evening’s inaugural balls.

  1. Why does it matter people, please let it go. That is the problem why does everything have to be Black, why couldn’t she select something that she was happy with. MAYBE she did not like the designs. Are the Obama’s here just for the Black community, I think not. Everything they do does not have to support the Black community, and it is pathetic that you are upset and have “dissed” Mrs. Obama because of her choice. We have come so far, but yet this is what you, do. Amazing, maybe white people are right, we are ready for a Black President because of people like you.

  2. This is ridiculous. If it is so important that someone supports Black designers then let Amnau Eele make it a point to do so. Since when do we tell the First Lady what to wear? Michelle Obama always looks fabulous and she always represents Black people and women with exceptional dignity and grace. It is not up to her to advertise for Black designers. This is hardly newsworthy. It’s just ignorance.

  3. I just have a question. Just because she’s black does that mean she had to wear a dress by a black designer? And maybe she will begin to wear clothes designed by black designers it just never crossed her mind to wear her dress designed by a black designer

  4. I think it’s a shame that some people still want to be boxed up and keep others boxed up, too. Perhaps Mrs. Obama chose something she wanted to wear, something that looked good on her without thinking of the designer. I haven’t heard any complaints from Maria Pinto that she didn’t choose one of her designs for Inauguration. Come on people, she has at least 4 years to wear stuff that people are going to be taking notice of. Relax.

  5. PLEASE SHUT UP ABOUT WEARING A BLACK DESIGNER. WHO CARES?! SHE LOOKED GORGEOUS, SHE PICKED WHAT SHE FELT WAS BEST AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.

  6. I am an african american woman and it saddens me that some black people are so ignorant. Black, white, spanish, chinese…. who cares who made the dress!!!!! I’m sure whatever dress she choose in the future will be just as nice as the one at the ball.

  7. not to be racist or anything…but i follow fashion and it has never crossed my mind that there are black designers out there… major ones at least…Michelle Obama wore designers that she has worn loyally in the past and i feel that the comment that it was “our moment to shine” is ridiculous and bigoted. Black designers or not, just shyut the hell up and focus on making good clothes and not being all entitled to have people wear stuff because of their skin color…jesus christ, this shit is so stupid i feel like i got dumber just by reading that comment

  8. Michele Obama owes no one nothing! She’s her own person. She gave unknowns an opportunity because she liked their work.

It’s a petty moment if the BAA feels they missed their coming out party. They arrived when they set out to build their own dreams, not Obama’s election.

We elected a President with a unique vision for government and a beautiful family who just happen to be black and of mixed origin.

The BAA’s attitude typifies what isn’t needed right now-crab mentality. This is the thing that keeps people back. Just look at Africa and other continents suffering from the same thing. Not only are they setting Mrs. Obama for failure, they are doing that to themselves and demonstrating a gross lack of maturity. After all that education to feel or the very last expect to be showcased. My congrats to them for modeling bad taste! God exalts when hearts are in the right place. Last time I checked it still has to do with humbling one’s self etc.

Lastly, if they were chosen, they wouldn’t have been the first. Black dress designer/seamstresses have been used in the past (do the research). All this says is that they are operating on negative from within.

I wish the Obama’s well in their new journey and to the BAA community — get a life or at least, a more fruitful one!

  9. Exactly I’m with you. Why should we care who made the dress. Do you know where your clothes are made or what designers you are wearing when u pick a wedding dress or a banquet desk. For everyone that thinks black is to be everything get real. Its not about that now.

  10. Black people, stop being jealous. First Lady Michelle Obama can wear whatever the h*ll she wants. So Shut up, get over it and make some better designs or figure out how to get your designs in front of her or those who help decide her wardrobe without griping and complaining.

If I were Michelle I would make it a point to avoid anyone affiliated with this racist troublesome organization

  11. This is so damn ridiculous. What’s next? Are black’s going to gripe about the food’s the Obama’s eat, how Michelle wears her hair, how the girl’s wear their clothe’s? C’mon, get a damn life. If Laura Bush had made it public that she wanted a dress from only a “white” designer she would’ve been labeled a damn racist. As a matter of fact, has anyone ever did research on her past designer dress picks? You might be surprised!!! Does all this mean that all blacks should wear FUBU and SEAN JEAN, etc. and whites wear only AEROPASTALE, U.S. POLO, RALPH LAUREN.? No, it doesn’t. We all wear what the hell we want. We’re not obligated to no one in the wearing of clothing just because of our skin color. Our clothing doesn’t make who we are, we make who we are. PERIOD!!!

  12. I agree with the black arists. So, if MO or BO doesn’t owe anything to Black arists, then why are ALL, 98.9 Black Americans supporting them. Wake UP!! Black America,, The O’s got’s there money, power and fame.. What do you have?.. pride and a cap with Obama on it. Dam right, the O’s have a right to highlight African American designers..tell me when do you think another First Lady will wear a African American designed dress? Also, the dress was butt ugly. How do you think of cultures have grown? MO could have lauched two AA designers’ careers and created more jobs within the Black Community

Black America..I love the O’s and I am proud..but wake up and demand respect from all, even the the O’s, they are not GODS
