Ellen Strickland: Home Depot Employee Fired Over 24 Cents

Helen Strickland, an 80-year-old woman affectionately known as “Mom” to her co workers at Home Depot states that she was fired from her job over a 24-cents screw.

She says that her use of ringing up six cent screws in order to get cash back on her own debit card to avoid ATM fees was prohibited by the company. She had previously worked in bookkeeping for 15 years before going into checkout.

There has been no comment from the South Ozone Park Home Depot management regarding the incident.

Strickland who claims to have handled million dollar accounts for the company and had been honored at an employee luncheon for her achievements in cashier friendliness is crestfallen at her termination.

Ms. Strickland has an attorney one Ester Goldbas points out her client’s flawless record of service in her defense.

Strickland’s lawsuit points out that other employees used this as a common practice but she was the only one that was terminated.

Strickland’s sadness over the firing is emphasized as she felt a closeness to her co workers over the 19 years she was employed there.

  1. Are you kidding me, Home Depot had better make this right, or Lowes will get all my business. Try and convince me they were not looking for an excuse to fire this lady.
