Marvin Sease Died

Soul-blues singer Marvin Sease, who was well known on the Southern chitlin circuit, has passed away on Febuary 8 in Vicksburg, MS. According to reports that had not yet been confirmed, the singer supposedly died of pneumonia.

Sease found his beginning in the gospel genre, and formed a group made up of himself and his three brothers. However, after awhile he decided that he would rather pursue R&B, and recorded his own album that he released on his own label as well.

The album was later re-released on London/Mercury in 1987, and featured his popular song “Ghetto Man”.

After the reissue of his album, Sease released a song nearly 10-minutes in length, entitled “Candy Licker”.

Even though the risqué song that was a clear allusion to sex never received any airplay, it still became a huge hit, and Sease then took “Candy Licker” as his new professional nickname.

Although the artist never found himself at the top of the charts, his songs were a genre unto themselves.

He released nearly 20 albums for London, Mercury, Jive and Silvertone, and finished his career on the Malaco label.
