Aristide Haiti Return

Former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was in exile in South Africa since 2004, returned to Haiti on Friday, March 18, which is one day before the second round of the presidential election in the country between Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly.

Upon arriving in Port-au-Prince’s international airport, Jean-Bertrand Aristide gave a lengthy speech where he indirectly revealed that he might get back in politics and pick fights with his enemies and traitors. He said in his controversial speech,

“The exclusion of Fanmi Lavalas is the exclusion of the majority of Haitians.Haiti’s greatest hope is Haitiains, and the best cure is love.Young heros and heroines of Haiti, lovers of liberty, the mother republic is calling us all.”

He went on to denounce the exclusion of his political party, Lavalas, in the presidential election and added that the state of the country had deteriorated since his departure from power in 2004.

Returning to his country despite warnings from France and the United States, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who remains very popular, also talked about the earthquake that killed at least 220,000 people in January 2010 and asked that they be remembered.

Aged 57, the former president then left the airport aboard an armored vehicle through a crowd of thousands of supporters came to welcome him to reach his home, located in Tabarre, not far from the capital.
