Tyler Perry For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf Movie – Tyler Perry is keeping the scripts rolling, as he has selected the cast for his next film, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.”
During Tuesday night’s New York City premiere for his latest film, “Why Did I Get Married Too?,” the movie maverick revealed that the cast will include Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine and Macy Gray.
The all-star cast will be starring in the film based on Ntozake Shange’s award-winning 1975 play. It is scheduled to begin shooting in June in New York with a possible winter 2010/2011 release date, according to BlackVoices.com.
The riveting play, consisting of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color – deal with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape and abortion – garnered much acclaim, becoming the toast of Broadway when it opened at The Booth Theater in 1976.
It later morphed into an Emmy Award nominated television special and is still being performed around the world.
Elise and Carey are the only two that made the cut from Perry’s initial wish list which he mentioned back in September 2009. It originally included 16-time Grammy Award winner Beyonce Knowles, Academy Award winner Halle Berry and media queen Oprah Winfrey.
“Making a film of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf” is a dream come true for me,” Perry said about the project. “Ntozake Shange’s play is a magnificent tribute to the strength and dignity of women of color, and I think audiences of all generations will be able to recognize and embrace the experiences these women represent. Creatively, this movie is one of the most exciting undertakings of my career.”
‘For Color Girls’ will be the first project for 34th Street Films, Perry’s new production company, which is housed at Lionsgate, as reported by AOLBlackVoices.com.

Black women support the most garbage out here. Another Stereo type movie blaming the men for all the black women short comings. He has been making millions off this mess. Worst than gangsta rap and old white hollywood. Tyler officially has become the King of Kooooonin. Spike Lee was right. He never puts anything positive out there about black man. In his movies If the Black man is successful he is a Jerk. If the black man take care of his kids. He’s a thug being supported by his wife/girl friend. At the end he is jealous of her success. The point is all his movies are made for woman. The shame is there is lil truth to what he Stereo type us to be. And black woman believe and by into his ideas. When he makes a real movie not dealing with negative images about blacks. At least Cube is funny without be racist or Koonin in his movies. Time for tyler to go Down…. Color woman thinking Suicide. And although the play expresses a certain dissatisfaction with the roles men have played in its characters’ lives, it transcends male-bashing and becomes a message of self-respect and reverence. (Another black male basher.) I knew it!!!!!

Regardless of what we think about Tyler Perry this book was awesome, and it was the first play that I ever went to see as an adult. So I am interested in how he translates this book into film. Since Spike lee has so much to say about Tyler Perry’s direction in regards to black men. How come Spike Lee has not released a movie involving postive black men. It is always easier to critizie someone else for doing better than themselves. So instead of Spike talking garbage about Tyler Spike needs to get to writing.
I heard For Colored Girls is going up on a mainstage in Hollywood. Does anybody know when?
I love Tyler Perry. I will be watching any movie that he is connected to. I am glad that he has a style of movie making that reflects the real life of black people. I also like that he incorporates all people into the movies that he makes. No matter if you are black or white you can identify with the people in his movies.
UHMMM, have you guys read the book or really paid attention to his movies. MY, MY,MY people have a lonnnng way to go. First, For Colored Girls Who Have Committed Suicide When The Rainbow Enuf is very uplifing it tells of struggles and obstacles, but not giving up. LIFE FOR US AIN’T BEEN NO CRYSTAL STAIR BUT STILL I CLIMB, know you history. His one movie showed a guy raising his three daughters without a six figure job., we have men not raising their kids who’s millionaires. UHMM GO FIGURE. And to the celebrities don’t we have enough of others bashing us but no we still have to bash each other while they keep getting richer.

Ok for one Tyler Perry decided to make a movie about a book/play that has been out almost 15 years now….do not blame him for wanting to uplift black woman since there is so many stereotypes about black women anyway….how many movies or plays have you all have seen that give the black women strength and success against a black man. You will sit here and talk about what Tyler Perry does but would rap every lyric to Lil Wayne, Drake and anyone else calling women hoes.
I would like to suggest that you all read the book/play first and UNDERSTAND why he is making a movie based off of it. Maybe if you males species would take care of your women species then there would not be so many movies or books bashing men. I bet about 8 out of 10 people you encounter most of them are being raised/or has been raised by their mother with no father figure around and more than half of that number of those people fathers have walked out of their lives when they were little or wasn’t even born yet. Hmph so I guess its wrong for black women to be praised then brought down by black men…
GO AHEAD TYLER PERRY!!!!!! Please people think before your write. Just be happy for the man. He is in a place were people can only dream of, and all some of you can focus is on “the bashing of black men”, he always has some form of contraversy in the movie but there is never jus a bad black man or good black woman. There is a whole mix of people; “A family that preys” hard working black man trying to take care of his family and start his own business with a cheating wife. “Daddy’s little girls” single father trying to make it for him and his daughters’ with a hood rat for a baby mother. Of coarse he knows to gear his films towards mostly female because we are usually the ones in the movie theater , dragging our man by the ear to see it…. Please give him some time to touch all bases first before you start “Bashing” him. And for the Spike Lee comments a lot of women could easily feel the same way about some of his movies bashing women ‘She’s got to have it”, “She hate me”, and many others. Yet, i don’t see it in that way. It’s a movie based on a story, someone’s life, or people he knows. Pay attention to what the movie is about not the title, or the star act. Both Spike and Tyler ‘s movies are inspirational, moving, and try to get people to see things in the “real light”. They bring life onto the big screen not a bunch of guns, explsions, and random scenes with no plot. It more the just a a movie with a good story line its a lot of people’s everyday lives.

It is so exciting to see that Mr. Perry is doing so well. It is nice to see a young black MAN ACHIEVING HIS GOALS AND CLIMBING TO THE TOP. He is making it in the world of Hollywood. He is also making a way for others to come up in the world. God Bless you Mr. Perry. Again another reason to venture out to the movie theater.
@bapes-It is sad to see the negativity you present to our “community”. It is your attitude that creates that view of black woman and black men you speak of. It is ok to be strong but you must also be wise. Support your community and support Mr. Perry, he is making a way for all of us. The truth is the truth. Tyler Perry’s movies present the truth. Thank you Tyler for putting together such a profound cast that delivered a profound message. I felt that the film was not just for people of color but everyone that has experience some type of HURT/PAIN in their life that has left them with emotional destructive baggage which they carry with them. They cope with that HURT/PAIN in so many different ways that it leads them to destructive behavior until they learn where the pain came from and how to deal with it in a healthy positive manner. Always an eye opening experience when watching your films/plays! Thank you Mr. Perry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn’t spend a dime to see a TP movie if someone gave me the dime. This guy is as bad as these so called “preachers” exploiting insecurities of the insecure on Sundays. As far as I am concerned, the man is a woman in male form and can only view the world from a compartmentalized point of view. I just want to see him make one movie where black men are depicted as serious players as opposed to figures that are to be pitied or reviled. Did this guy ever know any normal black men when he was growing up? I join the masses of brothers that reject this indoctrination in total.
I love the movie. nov 2010. But let us not forget the other issues in the movie. I support my black men. the veteran with PTSD issues being abandon by his country. The DL brother. Acceptance, feeling ashame of who he he, in order to confess to have the courage to end it with his wife. I respect my color women. Maybe the movie should have been for the Color folks. jajajaj lol
Greetings everyone! Over the years, it has always been common for Blacks to back everyone, but their own. Tyler Perry has done an excellent job in telling stories that uplift and encourage. Even if you do not like all of his movies, at least be encouraged that he has made it. What that means is that you too can be successful.
Pray for him. Realize that when you encourage some one else, God will remember your family also.
